Belgians Win, but the Saudis look threatening

May 11th, 2006 | By: Shahed | 10 Comments »

Saudi Arabia lost 1-2 to Belgium in a friendly game played in Netherland as part of the World Cup 2006 preparation. The Belgians went ahead early with a goal, after passing two defenders and sweeping it to side of the goal keeper. Then Saudis equalized with a free kick from Nawaf Al Temyat that deflected of a Belgian player. The second half, the Belgians went ahead after a quick shot that Muhammad Daeyea failed to stop. The second half did not look to be on the Belgians’ side, as Saudis were at constant attack and missed so many opportunities.

Shahed,

You must be the most optimistic guy ever. Our team didn’t do anything. If Mohammed Amin threatened that once, the Belgians could’ve added many more goals. We were poorer than poor.

As far as I see it, all the feedback we got from this game is very negative. We’re in serious trouble unless things are sorted out fast.

Yo Ahmad,

Paqueta himself said before the game, that he doesn’t expect much from the players as they haven’t fully reached the “level of preparation”. In addition, “Muhallel Al Mubarat Li Saudi Sports Channel” wanted the Saudi folks to be calm and assisst the team rather than scold it.

Folks,

let´s be realistic! Look where we are. We´re in the middle of the preparation for the wc and there is no reason to be pessimistic. Paqueta´s team is – as he himself says – not yet on the physical level he wants them to be. He´s got four more weeks to get´em there and I believe in the work he does and I trust those eleven players that will be on the field on june 14, whoever it is.
Do not pay too much attention to the belgium match with Al Jaber on the bank and Al Shlhoub comming in minute 71 for example.
Be calm and patient. The round of 16 is nearer, than everyone believes.
Although noone want´s to answer my replys :’( I want to thank all of you, especially Shahed. As I live in germany I have big problems to get Information about the Saudi team. We are well informed about every sneeze, that Ronaldinho does, but only few things about Saudi Arabian football. I know, this problem would not exist, if I coul read your arabian language, but I unfortunately don´t.
So it is very helpful to have someone (i.e. Shahed) who gives information in english about the Saudi team.
I just one more time wanted to thank you!
Now let´s hope, that the Togo match on sunday will be successfull.
And I still hope to find a live-stream to watch it. Yesterday I failed.
If anyone has any link – let me know.

Take care

Markus

Why is Mohammed Al Daeeya playing in goal? What ever happened to that young keeper everyone was labeling as the best in Asia?

Markus, thanks for touching on great points.

I always thought I was biased in how I looked at the team. At least, I have outsider (ie. Markus) on my side.

Seriously, Saudi Arabia potentially has far better midfielders and strikers than the previous two world cups. I think, we need to work on improving the defenders, as we already have the best player and defender in asia – Hamad Al Montashiri

Marcus, somehow ART Sport Channel brought the rights to all the Saudi friendly games. But Saudi Sport channel showed the games before but this time the didn’t.

I will keep you posted for any streaming.

Shahed,

thanks for your reply. There is one thing we shall not forget: The qualification!!!
12 games with 10 wins!!!
Especially the two victorys against South Corea were mentioned with respect, even here in europe.
Noone can tell me, that everything is wrong now, what was right in the qualification.
There are two things to improve. One thing is surely the defense (I realized this point, when watching the match against Portugal) and the other thing is the physis. Paqueta knows, that there are difficulties in holding up the level over 90 minutes. But I think, that the physis is a problem, that can be solved in the remaining 4 weeks. I think Paqueta knows what he is doing and he does a great job. I hope that Saudi officials will be patient with him and not kick him out, as they did with Calderon, who also did a great job.
The last qualification match against South Corea is 3/4 of a year behind. Noone can tell me, that the team unlearned to play football in such a short time.

Let´s have a bit faith in the team and the coach. They will do a great wc.

My prognosis is:

Tunisia – KSA 1:4
KSA – Ukraine 1:1

and if spain wins the first two matches, they will probably giva their stars a break in the third match, so that there IS a chance for a tie against spain.

Mark my words!

And look who comes in the round of the last 16 if france fails like four years ago:
It´s South Corea

Bingo!

;-)

Fingers crossed for sunday!

I don’t know why Muhammad Al Daeyea should stay as a goalie anymore. For some reason, he is favored over Mabrouk Zaid by our coach.

I think the coach is going to reconsider and place the young player back to where he belongs!

They should give Muhammed Al Daeyea a break and let the young players rise and show their potentional. Al Daeyea is too old he was good in his early years but not anymore.

Assalaamalikum everyone!

I just discovered this wonderful site, I was in search of a website that would keep me informed about the latest happenings in the saudi arabian football (specially the friendlies before the world cup).

I was happy to read this thread of recent discussions. I though I was the only one with interest in saudi football.

The ‘ksa vs togo’ match will start pretty soon, in about 8 hours I think. I live in the USA and there is no source for me to get my football news and matches. I have discovered a few chinese sports channels but I dont think anyone of them are showing fifa friendlies.

I’d love to keep in touch with all of you who are interested in saudi arabian football thru this site or thru mail. My email address is explorer_ds67@hotmail.com

Take care and see you all soon.
