Not a sucky team anymore!

February 10th, 2006 | By: Shahed | No Comments »

If people are asked what they think about Saudi football team? The first few words would always be “didn’t they lose in 2002 by 8 goals?”. Indeed that is a true fact, but that’s not the image the Saudi team deserves at all. Especially now with the new generation players in the national team, people should start thinking about erasing from their memory the team’s past misfortune.

Coach Paqueta believes in the team. He also believes according to an interview, that the team can go to second round during the upcoming World Cup 2006 along with Spain. He did say that he has full respect for the Tunisians and Ukranians, but he felt that his team can do it. When asked about Spain being in the group, Paqueta would remind reporters how he beat Spain with his U-17 and U-20 Brazillian team. He believes that his experience is essentially a true ingredient to the success for the Saudi team.

Recently, the legendary Pele predicted that the Saudi team will meet Brazil in the final of the World Cup. I think that is every team’s wish. He believes, like me, that the team will shun out the 8-0 image of themselves.

If you look back to the 1994 World Cup. Saudi Arabia’s journey to second round started with the first game against Morocco. Tunisia, like Morocco is in North Africa and an Arab team. Saudi starts their coming World Cup against Tunisia as they have done so against in the 94 World Cup. I believe that if they can win against Tunisia, Saudis are already on their way to the second round.
