Saudi Arabia: The team with players from two big Clubs!!

May 16th, 2006 | By: Shahed | 4 Comments »

I was reading Bob’s article about the clubs that have the highest number of its players playing in the coming World Cup. But I realized that, Saudi Arabia is only country that has half of the team from two major saudi clubs - 9 players playing from Al-Hilal and 7 players from Al-Ittihad.

I don’t think anyone else could beat that record!

Hey that isn’t a thing to be proud of I am afraid. It tells me two things.

A) There is a shortage of talent in Saudi Arabia. Or if there is a lot of talent it isn’t being processed properly and only a couple of clubs are polishing the players to the point where they can make it to the national squad.

B) Players are getting too used to each other since they play together so often. It puts them in a comfort zone and they need to be able to function in different situations and gain different creative ideas.

You can only do that if 11 players in your team are from various clubs, each with different coaches and each bringing something different to the national squad.

I know you gel better though if everyone plays in the same 2 clubs, but you can do that in the national team.

True! Respect! It sends across a message that we need to send our players abroad!
