Ukraine..we don’t fear you

May 29th, 2006 | By: Shahed | 18 Comments »

After Ukraine’s game against Costa Rica, we all got the message – “We (Ukraines) are not one easy team and we will slap each team in group 8”

Paqueta is already on work – he is soon going to analyze Ukraine’s game against Costa Rica and see their potential strengths.

Really? Are you serious? 4-0 vs. Costa Rica doesnt scare you? I find this very interesting given the shutout vs the Czech Republic. Can someone please explain this sense of confidence on the part of Saudi supporters?

Give Costa Rica a break. They just had a bad day! Also the first three goals came in within 10 minutes! Its called bad defense.

So this means that Ukraine is not as great as we think it. Its lucky to win with 4 goals.

Saudis run smoothly when they are confidence. This is the team that won South Korea with confidence.

If Saudi Arabia beats Tunisia, I am telling you, Saudi Arabia will be so confident that Ukrainians need to watch out.

Rob, have you ever watched the Saudis play. If you solely depend on result, then you got no say why we shouldn’t be confident.

Saudi Arabia is as a good as other European team but only mistakes cost them alto

I’m sorry, but I just had to post here since my country is an issue…

Results speak for themselves my friends;

May 26 ___ Saudi Arabia 0-2 Czech Rep.

May 14 ___ Saudi Arabia 1-0 Togo

May 11 ___ Saudi Arabia 1-2 Belgium

Mar 28 ___ Saudi Arabia 1-2 Poland

Mar 15 ___ Saudi Arabia 2-2 Iraq

Mar 1 ____ Saudi Arabia 0-3 Portugal

You have been beaten by every European team you have faced in the last 2 months, one of them (Belgium) didnt even qualify for the World Cup. Ukraine has beaten Greece, Denmark and Turkey to get to the World Cup.

On May 31st, you guys have a friendly with Turkey, a team that did not qualify because Ukraine was able to smack them 3-0 in Turkey, if you are unable to handle them…. then do the math :O)

actually andriy’s post gave me a boost of confidence. Because if you understand how strong the teams we played are, then you can see that saudi arabia are improving.
From losing 3-0 to portugal and drawing with Iraq in the first 2 games, to winning against togo and losing only 2-0 to czech republic (who’s second goal was a penalty kick, come on…)

So it’s very obvious that saudi arabia are getting better as the go on

LIsten.. me maself am saudi. but there is a point where we have to face facts.. they are not good enough, and not even half as they were in 1994.. i say quit ur bets on them, bet them they’d lose every single game.
conficence, winning Turkey is nothign.. for gods sake they got beaten from LEBANON!!!!!!!!! and a tie with IRAQ. YOU do the math.. at least i know that they’re not passin the group stage so i wouldn’t have a shock am well prepared for their poor effort. they’ll surprise me if they get a point. and i think thats enough. what they’d next is kick paqueta, after they kicked calderon they don’t even have a chance to not lose their face. i say withdraw now and save us the embaressment..

Pretty interesting comments. I believe that the Saudi players get a little bit nervous when they play european countries, I dont blame them for that.

Shahed, although you are a little bit optimistic, I stand by your side and hope that saudi’s do their best in this world cup.

They must win all of the friendlies before the worldcup, to change everyone’s opinion about them.

As Shahed said, the score itself does not reflect how well the team is prepared, its the type of goals they concede. They must study all the mistakes they made and try to avoid them.

What happened in Korea was a disaster, and it should not ever happen to anyone. The morale of the saudi players was severly effected after that game.

If they just hold off spain with a draw, and manage to beat Ukraine and Tunesia, they can make it…. :)

I thought Ukraine was a pretty easy team to beat, this post changed my opinion about that. I will be studying Ukraine very closely now, after all this is what the worldcup is all about…competition. :)

Folks,

Don’t forget -

Saudi Arabia also played the following friendly games:

Saudi Arabia 1-1 Greece
Saudi Arabia 1-1 Finland
Saudi Arabia 1-1 Sweden

Iraq is a strong team. I don’t know how many people watched the last olympic. Iraq performed really well and most of the players play in the first team.

So I don’t know how anyone could say that Saudi Arabia drawing 2-2 with Iraq is bad thing. Iraq is a strong team and same goes with Saudi Arabia

I think Ukraine is not a very great team, which can not be beaten. I am Albanian and I have followed their matches, as our team was in the same groups.

Yes, Ukraine deserves respect, because it managed to be the first although played with tough teams, but it is not a great team, and I think (wish and believe) that SA will beat them.

Ukraine’s game is based on some players, which are very good, as Sheva, Veronin and another whose name I dont remember now. All you have to do is to make good defence, and try to block Sheva and Voronin. That’s it!

I think it is gonna be a draw between these teams. Or SA will beat.

I see everybody here is talking about Ukraine and Spain as if Saudi has already won it’s match against Tunisia! Tunisian team includes players from Ajax, Bolton, glasgow , toulouse … We don’t under estimate the Saudi Team , but it will be a big mistake if you do.

I’m really hoping Saudis to finish a top of this group, but c’mon, there’s hope and then there’s reality. I would be happy now if they finish third, after how they performed their warm up matches. I don’t see them beating Ukraine nor Spain, maybe Tunis, but doubt it…could be a draw.
If Saudis had to qualify from Europe, they’ll still be dreaming of making it to their first world cup, that’s almost a fact. Our record against the Europeans is not that great and it’s mostly due to the fact non of our players play professionally in Europe.
